Even though FujiFilm and Dell manufacturers differ for their respective business printers, products targeted at the same markets (SMBs and Enterprise) largely vary in terms of complexity. In this guide, which is the last in the series on authorized brand printers, we cover the key steps to troubleshoot for FujiFilm and Dell printers. With this guide, businesses with these printer models can refer to and use this information to resolve printer related problems.
Quick Answer
For the purposes of initial setup and troubleshooting, the issues that affect these printer models largely include, print quality and driver related issues. It is important to note that issues related to printer electronics are not covered in this guide.
Setting Up a FujiFilm Apeos Series Printer
FujiFilm provides a step by step guide on their website for setting up an Apeos printer. We have summarized these steps below.
- Connect the printer to power and Ethernet.
- Print the initial configuration page to obtain the printer’s IP address.
- Download and install the FujiFilm printer driver for your OS.
- Configure email and/or folder settings if needed. For email settings, you will need to provide the outgoing (SMTP) server settings for your email service provider.
- Conduct a test print and test scan.
Common FujiFilm Troubleshooting
PRINTING ISSUES
Print jobs not appearing in the queue: The print spooler service should be restarted on the workstation.
COMMUNICATION ISSUES
Network drops after initial setup: If the printer was not given a static or reserved IP address via DHCP, its IP address will be assigned automatically, and the printer will no longer communicate with the network. Assigning a DHCP reservation will provide a static IP address and resolve the issue.
PERFORMANCE ISSUES
Decline in print quality: The drains and/or toner cartridges may need to be replaced. Check to see if component wear has occurred.
Dell Printer Configuration
CONFIGURATION
Connect the printer to the network. Configure the printer to obtain an IP address via DHCP. A printed configuration page will be required to obtain the IP address.
DRIVER INSTALLATION
The Windows driver provides very little, if any, functionality. It is recommended that the printer driver be obtained from Dell’s web site.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONALITY
Fine tune the printer for scan-to-email or scan-to-folder functions.
TROUBLESHOOTING
In the case that the printer is not detected, communications may be blocked by a firewall.
Additional Dell Troubleshooting
If the printer is still not recognized, assure the printer and computer are on the same network segment.
Intermittent connectivity after setup: Like most business printers, this is typically caused by the device’s IP address changing (i.e. dynamic IP address). Static (reserved) IP addresses are the typical fix for this issue.
Toner/print quality issues: To ensure the best print quality, Dell recommends using Dell brand toner cartridges. Using third-party toner cartridges may cause print quality issues.
Driver and Firmware Considerations for Both Brands
Compared to a business’s expectations, using the correct printer model’s driver is more important. Using a generic (i.e. operating system’s default) driver may limit the printer to only performing a basic print function. Firmware updates may be released by the manufacturer. If connectivity issues occur after a change to the business’s network, checking for a firmware update may resolve the issue.

Frequently Asked Questions
Model specific drivers are encouraged over generic drivers for the reasons stated above.
This is typically due to the printer’s IP address changing because the address is not configured as a static or reserved address. Address reservation is configured in the router.
Both manufacturers state that use of after market or remanufactured toner cartridges may result in reduced print quality and component wear out. Use of after market toner cartridges is not recommended if the printer is under a maintenance contract.
We can support multiple printer brands as part of our Managed Print Services program. Under this program, we consolidate all major printer brands under a single service agreement and provide service for those brands.
